5 Michigan hospitals improve, get national recognition

They haven't hit the prime time yet but give kudos to five Michigan hospitals who made it into the "100 Top Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders" released by Thomson Reuters.

The hospitals in the state are some of the best institutions in the country, which is a big reason why the business of healthcare has been a nice stabilizer for Michigan.

Named in today's report were Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac and McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint in the teaching-hospitals category. Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit made the list as a major teaching hospital and Allegiance Health in Jackson as a large community hospital.

The fifth edition of the Thomson Reuters "100 Top Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders" shows that hospitals overall struggled to drive improved performance from 2002 to 2006, though the recognized systems "illustrate that rapid, across-the-board improvement is attainable."
