One argument is that energy-efficient equipment can be expensive. Well,
thanks to a state grant, compact fluorescent bulbs can now be purchased
for a handful of loose change. So, for the coin you can find in your
couch (assuming you can find at least a dollar) you can now purchase an
energy-efficient light bulb, which is said to save you about $30 over
the lifetime of the bulb.

Starting Wednesday, about 500,000 compact fluorescent bulbs
will be available for as little as 99 cents at Kroger,
Meijer and Menards stores across the state. They also will
be sold at Ace Hardware stores in the Lansing area and Upper Peninsula.
The bulbs are cheaper thanks in part to a state grant.
