Lights, Camera... Michigan!

Michigan's no Hollywood, but it might be. A push up in the capital for tax breaks and incentives for filmmakers could bring the silver screen to the Great Lake State. These breaks and incentives would greatly reduce the cost of making a film, making Michigan a destination for filmmakers. Movies will bring recognition and a face, but, more importantly, they'll also bring jobs and cash.

The most immediate benefit would be job creation, Huizenga said. Over time, film production would also provide an image upgrade for a state that may need one. Geographical diversity, he said, makes Michigan one big movie set.

"This is an opportunity to bring Michigan to the world and the world back to Michigan," he said. "It's nearly impossible to capture on a balance sheet."
