Michigan movies could turn into Michigan tourism

Yes, it's another film piece. But there are so many because it's such a big deal for the state on so many levels. Obviously, the biggest is the economic impact... but you can't ignore the excitement of seeing a celebrity, which comes a close second to bringing in the bucks.

"I don't think people realize how significant this tax incentive is going to be from both an economic standpoint and a ... (public-relations) standpoint,'' Fox said. "From an economic standpoint, it's going to create more jobs. ... Furthermore, it will have a big impact on hotel and restaurant business.

"From a PR standpoint, having Hollywood movers and shakers in town and at our restaurants, nightclubs, bars, hotels, etc. will create good word of mouth and hopefully dispel some of the negative stereotypes people have about our state and especially Detroit.

"The fact of the matter is, Michigan is a great 'sound stage' for film productions because we have virtually every imaginable landscape: urban, suburban, farmland, dunes, mountains and -- most importantly -- the most coastline of any state. So I wouldn't be surprised if it leads to a boost in state tourism, either.''
