Washtenaw County Border-to-Border trail nearly completed

It's gonna be a 35 mile path from the Southeast corner to the the Northwest corner of Washtenaw County, aptly named the Border-to-Border Trail - makes sense, huh? It's nearly half way there after ten years of planning and paving, with the completed section open and ready for business.

Existing segments largely run along parks, including the much-used segment in Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, but area residents may not know those segments are part of the vision for the much larger trail.

When Coy Vaughn, superintendent of park planning for the county parks and recreation commission, looks over a map of the trail at the county offices, he sees a dedicated nonmotorized path popular among people seeking recreation and people using it to commute. Bicyclists, rollerbladers, joggers and people going for a walk already use the existing portions.

"We anticipate (it being used) both for recreation and for transportation - community to work, or school," Vaughn said.
