A team of students from Lawrence Tech University demonstrated their "kart" that ran on fuel cell technology.
Excerpt:
The kart -- and students -- were a main attraction at the National
Hydrogen Association Conference and Hydro Expo last weekend in
Columbia, S.C.
"A
lot of people were interested," said Adrian Snyder, team leader for the
14 students who demonstrated how their kart uses a hydrogen fuel cell
to generate enough electrical power to enable their 530-pound vehicle
to travel at speeds approaching 40 miles per hour.
"We
were itching to race," said Snyder, an engineering senior from
Naperville, Ill. But when other teams weren't able to attend, he said,
the race was canceled.
Their
disappointment was short-lived, Snyder said. The students were content
to demonstrate the kart and to explain the technology involved to
convention goers, local media and the general public.
