Chinese Language School Initiative Leads to 'Sister City' Agreement with Chinese Delegation

WHO:     Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and representatives from the Tianjin (China) Economic - Technological Development Area
         
WHAT:    Mr. Patterson will participate in a signing ceremony with Chinese officials from the TEDA that may lead to increased business opportunities for Oakland County and Tianjin.  

WHERE:     The Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend St., Birmingham

WHEN:     Thursday, October 30. The signing is to take place about 10:30 a.m. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m. It will include a breakfast, remarks and a brief seminar from Chinese officials to 10 local companies about doing business in China. The event is not open to the public but the media is encouraged to attend.

WHY:     Oakland Schools, through a challenge made by Mr. Patterson, now offers Chinese language and/or culture in the 28 public school districts. On a trip to China that helped develop the program, a relationship was formed with the TEDA. The goal of signing the agreement with the TEDA is that it will lead to trade agreements that will benefit both Oakland County and Tianjin, China.
