Burton Commons project moving forward in Ann Arbor

The Ann Arbor City Council approved the rezoning needed for the high-density Burton Commons residential project Monday.

The project will construct 120 affordable-housing apartments in five, three-story buildings on Burton Road, just northwest of the intersection of Packard Road and U.S. 23. The development will include 185 parking spaces, 24 bicycle parking spots, three children’s play structures, and a community building.

The developer, California-based Ann Arbor Housing Investors, plans to replace trees cut down for the project and maintain wetland areas. The project will also maintain open green spaces around the buildings. The site plan for the project must still be approved by the city before construction can begin.
