The city of Ypsilanti is investigating the potential cost savings of changing some of its downtown streetlights to LED lights. The move would also help the city conserve electricity.
The city spends $38,000 a month on electricity for its streetlights. City officials say switching those same streetlights to LED lights, which use less electricity than incandescent light bulbs, could tentatively cut their electric bills by up to 50%.
LED lights are currently used in traffic lights, TV, and cooler flashlights; as well as many other products.
