Experts from around the country present plans for downtown Detroit

University of Michigan's 9th Annual Detroit design charette focused on downtown Detroit. On Monday, Jan. 29, planners and architects - both national and local - presented their proposals to a packed house and the Gem Theatre.

Many of these suggestions are already being pursued by the city, said George Jackson, president of the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., a quasi-public agency that promotes Detroit development.

"I saw a lot here today that got the wheels turning and we are already trying to utilize many of these suggestions in our decision-making process and we hope to incorporate more," Jackson said. He said if these projects were to become reality, it would be through public/private investment.
