The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has said it will commit $1 million to assist displaced Pfizer employees. The money is from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth and will be on tap to retrain workers to obtain new jobs within the state.
It will be administered by Washtenaw County's Michigan Works Service Center and Employment Training and Community Services and will be available to any Pfizer worker affected by the company's plan to leave Ann Arbor next year.
Governor Granholm led more than 100 local business, community leaders, nonprofit and public officials to set up eight "action" teams to tackle issues like: keeping Pfizer employees in Michigan, what will be done with the company's facilities and how the company’s exit will impact the community.
Granholm and Ann Arbor city leaders declared that they would engage in an "all out push" to fill Pfizer's two million square foot campus.
