Lowry Computer wins $400M Dept of Defense contract

Lowry Computer just nailed down a major military contract that could be worth more than $400 million for the Brighton-based firm and other firms that will share in it.

The company specializes in selling systems integration for data collection. The U.S. Army's Information Technology, E-Commerce, and Commercial Contracting Center picked Lowry to provide Automatic Identification Technology for a number of big-name Homeland Security agencies. Those include the U.S Department of Defense, Coast Guard, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and other Foreign Military Sales.

The contract will initially run for three years. The feds have a six-year renewal option after that. Lowry Computer believes the contract could be extended indefinitely if the feds like the services/products they receive.

Lowry Computer employed about 175 people (50 of which are in Brighton) when we last checked in with the firm last summer. Its current employee count is unknown, as attempts to reach the firm proved unsuccessful. The company got its start selling bar code scanning infrastructure.
