Snapshot Design has come a long way since 2001 when four friends founded the web-design company in the back bedroom of a St. Clair Shores home. The company now has 13 employees, hopes to double that staff count to accommodate growth and has no intention of leaving St. Clair Shores anytime soon.
"We don’t plan on moving and we only plan on hiring local talent," says Tom Veselenak, who founded Snapshot Design with Craig Baetz, Steve Mattson and Mike Sottrel. "We don't outsource our work."
The four gained their background in website development while working for catalog and website companies. After making a lot of money for other people, the group decided to stake their own claim at wealth with Snapshot Design.
They now have an impressive list of clients that are mostly (about 85 to 90 percent) from out of state, such as Baileys, Hickory Farms and Mustangs Unlimited. They build nearly 80 to 90 percent of the websites.
"We found a niche for building websites for companies that have between $15 million and $150 million in revenues a year," Veselenak says. "That's our sweet spot."
Sweet enough that they hope to expand to more local companies within the next couple of years. If that happens they expect to double in size, hire more people and find more space where they are but not in that first bedroom.
