Making the jump from the U.S. Marine Corps to a high-tech start-up isn't a typical career trajectory, but it made sense for Tony Hernandez and his Commerce Township-based TStream
Technologies.Hernandez, was introduced to the IT
world while working with data communications when he was in the Marine Corps. After he
left, he worked for an IT firm before he realized he could make more money on
his own, creating TStream Technologies.
"I knew everything the company I worked for did I could
do myself and I always wanted to own my own business," Hernandez says.
That was three years ago. Since then Hernandez has brought in a second employee and hopes to hire a few more people within the
next year. "We'd like to
go after some larger contracts," Hernandez says.
That would require some more remote connection IT work,
meaning performing trouble shooting jobs from a distance instead of sending a
person to the scene for every little thing. The firm is already branching out by opening offices in Novi and Harper
Woods and hopes to expand beyond servicing small- and
medium-sized businesses.
