January is moving month for the Royal Oak Historical Museum.
The nearly 6-year-old museum is leaving its 900-square-foot room in the Churchill Community Center and going to its own 4,000-square-foot digs at the former Northwood Fire Station by the end of month.
The new facility will offer more room for history exhibits year-round.
"We are very excited about the changes ahead and have been looking forward to having our own dedicated space for some time," said Muriel Versagi, curator of the museum.
Officials struck a deal in October 2007 with Royal Oak City commissioners for a five-year renewable lease at the Northwood station for $1 annually and the payment of utilities. A $132,000 block grant acquired in 2008 has helped renovate the facility that will house the more than 10,000 Royal Oak historical artifacts used for exhibits, Versagi said.
