The Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra (BBSO) will present its "Sounds Spectacular" concert on Sunday, January 31.
Beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Temple Beth El, 14 Mile Road at Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township, the concert will feature three musical selections. The program includes Schubert's Overture to "Rosamunde", followed by one of the most exciting symphonic crowd-pleasers of all time, Rimsky-Korsakov's effervescent "Capriccio espagnol". When first rehearsed in Russia, even the orchestra applauded after every movement.
After intermission the orchestra will present Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in C minor. It took Brahms over 20 years to complete his first symphony. Many felt this was because he was intimidated by Beethoven's incredible output of nine masterful symphonies. When Brahms finally finished his symphony, it was hugely successful and one famous conductor of the day even nicknamed it "Beethoven's 10th."
Charles Greenwell, music director and principal conductor of the BBSO, will conduct the orchestra. Adult admission for the concert is $27. Groups of 10 or more people ordering tickets together can attend for $20 each. Students and children under 18 are always free at the BBSO. Tickets can be obtained by telephone at 248.645.2276, online at www.BBSO.org and at the door.
